As of December 5th, when you log into your online catalog account, you will be prompted to change your password. For security reasons, your new password must be at least seven characters long and contain both letters and numbers.
Once your password is updated, you will have the ability to change your e-mail address online, as well as create a username other than your barcode number to use when logging in to your account.
If you forget your new password, the library will have the ability to reset it, giving you a temporary password to use so that you can reset your password yourself online.
You may have noticed that we changed our calendar of events on the left navigation menu of this page. Our new calendar allows you to share events with others who may be interested, as well as set up e-mail reminders to remind yourself of upcoming events. You can also switch between weekly or monthly views using the links in the upper right-hand corner. Be on the lookout for upcoming events, such as the popular gingerbread house workshop happening this weekend!

Starting on November 1st, patrons (18 years of age or older) will be able to check out the library's e-readers and use them at home. Until now, e-readers could only be used inside of the library. Starting next Tuesday, you will be able to take an e-reader home with you for a one-week period. Before borrowing, you will need to sign our updated e-reader policy, and we will need to make a copy of your driver's license or photo ID, which we will hold at the library until you return the device. You may only check out one e-reader at a time, and may not renew or request the devices. The e-readers available for loan are the Kindle DX, Nook, iPad, and Sony Reader. See our new e-reader page to learn more about the different devices. This is a great opportunity to test them all and see which one is most compatible with you!

Starting November 1st, museum passes will be requestable right from your home computer! All you need to do is enter your library card barcode number and you will be able to request passes up to one month in advance. As always, passes are only available to members of the Friends of the Library. Your Friends membership is now directly tied to your library card, and the name that you write on your membership form is the one that will be added to the membership list. For example, if the membership form says "Romeo Montague," then Romeo will be added to the membership list, and you will have to use Romeo's card to request passes. If the membership form says "Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet," then both Romeo and Juliet's cards will work. If you have any questions about your membership, feel free to contact us.
Love the Library? The Friends of the Topsfield Library are the passionate and dedicated group of people who sponsor all of our museum passes, book sales, and many of our library programs. The Friends membership year runs from October 1st - September 30th, so the new year is just about to start. Sign up now for the 2011-2012 year, and help support our beautiful library!
Of course, one of the greatest benefits to being a Friends member is that you are able to use the library's museum passes. Now that fall is upon us, why not spend your weekend at a fall-friendly museum? The Higgins Armory Museum and the Norman Rockwell Museum both require a bit of a drive, but driving is a great way to enjoy the fall foliage! If you would prefer to see it up close, go hiking with the Massachusetts Parks Pass. Or, if you'd like to enjoy some art in the outdoors, try the Decordova Museum. They have several beautiful pieces outside in their sculpture park.
For more information about the Friends of the Library, see our Friends page. For more information about our museum passes, check out our Museum Pass page and Museum Pass FAQ. If you'd like to join the Friends of the Library, click here for a membership form. You can either mail your completed form to the library or hand-deliver it to us at the main desk. Thank you!
The moment has finally arrived! Kindle-compatible library ebooks are now available through Overdrive. Just go to the Overdrive website and click the large link on the left-hand side of the page to see a list of all our Kindle-compatible e-books. (If you have a different type of ereader, click here to find out if your device is compatible with Overdrive!) As with any other Overdrive download, you will need to input your library card barcode number. Read this post on the Overdrive blog to find out how to get books onto your Kindle. Back to School! Back at school? If you need to write a report and are having trouble with your research, try searching one of our databases. With your library card barcode number, you have access to tons of scholarly journals, encyclopedias, primary resources, and even videos right from home. Two of our most useful databases for school research are Infotrac Student Edition and Student Research Center (accessible through EBSCOHost). Try doing a keyword search for your topic (such as "Civil War" or "Salvador Dali") or, if you're just curious to know what's out there, browse top subjects. If you have any questions, or need help, e-mail our reference department.
Our databases aren't just for students, though! Whether you're researching your genealogy, looking for a new book to read, or looking for business statistics, we can help you out.
View our databases by subject or as an alphabetical list. And if you need help, feel free to call or e-mail!
