Thank you for your interest in sharing your art with the patrons of the Topsfield Town Library. Exhibitions are arranged at the discretion of the library director as space and circumstance permits. Please schedule the details of time and place accordingly and observe the set up and removal dates for your exhibit. The artist is responsible for the hanging and removal of his or her exhibit.
It is important for each exhibiting artist to know that the library meeting room is a public space with occasional scheduled use of the room that may bar viewing of your work at a particular time. The library cannot assume responsibility for valuable works of art. We regret that we cannot carry insurance for your protection, however the library does have a security system in place. The library does discourage the exhibiting of very small items. We recommend that you insure your works of art.
Please provide a complete list of the names and prices for your work. You may leave your cards and guest book in the meeting room. The artist negotiates the sales of art with any interested party. The library does not accept commissions for works that are sold, but welcomes a 15% donation to the Friends of the Topsfield Library. Sold works may not be removed during the show. Receptions are allowed, but the scheduling and details of a reception must be made through the library director.
On the day of removal of your artwork, please stop at the circulation desk or in the director’s office to verify removal. Any comments and suggestions are most welcome. We hope you enjoy this experience.
Exhibitors Please Note:
The quality of the art exhibited is an important consideration in attracting artists to show their work in the Topsfield Town Library. It is important, therefore, to set standards for shows in the meeting room. All first-time exhibitors at the library may be required to submit, in advance of setting an exhibit date, two works of art for review by the library director and a member of the art committee or trustees. Solo artists must have a substantial body of framed work for exhibit. The preference is for artists who have had some experience in setting up an exhibit. The work must be properly hung with care taken not to mark the walls. The library reserves the right to decline the work of any artist who does not meet these minimum requirements.
Group shows must be sponsored and a designated responsible person
indicated at the time of application. While submission of works of art
in advance is not required, the same care described above also applies.
The installation must be completed in one day. The same applies to
removal of art. Failure to meet these minimum guidelines will mean
disqualification from future exhibits.
