General Information:

The Topsfield Library has purchased four e-readers for patron use (patrons must be 18 years of age or older to check out an e-reader). To borrow an e-reader, first sign a copy of the library's e-reader policy, then give the completed policy and a photo ID to a librarian at the main desk, who will make a copy of your ID and hold it at the desk until the device is returned. You may borrow e-readers for one week at a time. e-Readers may not be renewed or requested.

All of the library's e-readers come pre-loaded with assorted "classic" books. There are also a few popular titles on each device that change twice per month. Patrons are prohibited from purchasing additional books, apps, and other material for the devices. You may, however, borrow e-books from our digital download service, Overdrive, using your library card. These books can be transferred onto our e-readers from your home computer and will disappear from the device after the lending period.

Amazon Kindle DX

The Amazon Kindle DX is a larger version of the original Amazon Kindle. It uses a keyboard and small joystick to navigate. There are a limited number of popular ebooks on the Kindle that the library changes every few weeks. Read more about the Amazon Kindle here.

Barnes and Noble Nook

The Barnes and Noble Nook contains a few popular titles that change twice per month. The library's Nook is the original black-and-white Nook, although Barnes and Noble also offers a newer version of the device with a full-color screen. Read more about the Nook here.

Sony Reader: Daily Edition

The Sony Reader is the only device that comes with a stylus, which is used on the device's touchscreen to make selections. Like the other three e-readers available in the library, the Sony Reader offers selected popular books that are changed every few weeks. It also contains trial issues of various newspapers, so that the user may see how a newspaper displays on the device. Read more about the Sony Reader here.

Apple iPad

The popular iPad is available with all of Apple's default apps, including Safari web browser, iTunes, and iBooks. The iPad also contains books that are pre-loaded onto the device. Read more about the iPad here.
